Managing Compliance Challenges — Industry Workshops Across Southeast Asia
Proactive Risk Management in a Changing Global Landscape
In collaboration with the U.S. Department of State and Sandia National Laboratories, the Centre for Trade Excellence co-hosted a series of high-impact, one-day workshops across Southeast Asia under the banner of “Managing Compliance Challenges.”
Held in Jakarta (9 January), Kuala Lumpur (11 January), and Bangkok, the workshops brought together industry participants from the manufacturing, logistics, and maritime sectors - industries at the front lines of supply chain and compliance exposure.
As export control regimes tighten and enforcement becomes more sophisticated, these sessions provided timely, actionable insights to help companies navigate complex trade regulations and mitigate proliferation risks.
A Practical Approach to Compliance Risk
Led by subject matter experts from the United States and Singapore, the workshops examined real-world compliance challenges linked to the international supply of component parts, particularly in relation to the use of drones in conflict zones such as Ukraine.

This series reinforced a central tenet of the Centre’s approach to risk and compliance: capability must extend beyond awareness to application. As the risk landscape becomes more fluid and jurisdictional expectations expand, organisations need to move beyond box-ticking - toward robust, proactive compliance systems that protect their operations, people, and partnerships.
By bringing global expertise to regional industry leaders, these workshops reflect our commitment towards building real-world risk management capacity across sectors that are critical to security, trade and peace.
