Securing Emerging Technologies - ASEAN Regional Forum Dialogue on Risk, Compliance & Integrity
Responsible Innovation in the Age of Disruption
At the 15th ASEAN Regional Forum Inter-Sessional Meeting (ISM) in Honolulu, the Centre for Trade Excellence participated in high-level dialogues focused on the opportunities and vulnerabilities of emerging technologies, specifically biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and quantum technology, within the context of non-proliferation, disarmament, and global trade governance.
As these technologies continue to transform economies and societies, they also introduce new vectors of risk—from dual-use concerns and data exposure to compliance gaps and ethical governance dilemmas.

A key takeaway from the forum was clear: while innovation is essential to sustainable growth, its responsible management is just as critical. The private sector must actively contribute to non-proliferation and risk reduction by strengthening internal governance, investing in compliance systems, and embedding ethical guardrails into R&D and deployment strategies.
